Who Am I?
Poetry

Who Am I?

They ask me, who am I?
They questioned my individuality.
I told them,
I am a woman, a muslimah, a momina.

Allah has exalted me so high that –
When I am a daughter,
I bring blessings to my father.
When I am a sister,
I bring mercy to my brother.
When I am a mother,
I am a blessing and a mercy for my children.
I am a mercy, I am a blessing, I bring happiness,
Yes, I am the tranquility of my mehram’s heart.

They confined me,
They told me
I am not meant for war.
I apprise them,
Remember, Sumayyah RA was the first martyr of Islam.

They scuffle my voice,
They questioned my faith.
I apprise them,
It was Khadijah RA who first accepted the call of Islam.

They scotched my ideas
They trivialised my intellect
I told them
It was Ayesha RA who became a scholar of Islam.
